DJI Unveils Battery Station for Professional Power Management

DJI has launched a new product designed for professional pilots and camera operators: DJI Battery Station. The battery station has been built for DJI’s Intelligent Battery TB50, which is compatible with the Ronin 2, Inspire 2 and the M200 series. According to the drone industry’s most popular manufacturer, the move emphasises “DJI’s commitment to the professional cinema world.”

So why should Inspire 2 and M200 pilots choose a DJI Battery Station over the usual charging methods? For starters, the Battery Station can store up to 12 TB50 Intelligent Batteries at once and charge up to 8 simultaneously. The charging ports also allow customers to charge other devices including selective remote controllers, WB37 Intelligent Batteries and mobile devices.

Apart from having an enormous capacity, the Battery Station comes equipped with an LCD screen. On it you’ll find your batteries’ power level, charging voltage, remaining charge time, temperature and firmware version. The idea is to give you all the information you need, from a battery perspective, to ensure a safe flight.

A built-in cooling fan helps dissipate heat while charging and an overheating detection monitor provides an additional level of safety.

Intelligent charging modes

There are also three intelligent charging modes – Normal, Quick and Silent – which offer flexible power management to keep pilots covered in all shooting scenarios. In Normal Mode, 8 TB50 Intelligent Batteries can be charged simultaneously, while in Quick Mode 4 TB50 Intelligent Batteries with the highest battery level in the same group will be charged to 90% in just 35 minutes. In Silent mode, charging speed is lowered for a quieter process on noise sensitive film sets.

That’s a lot of power to be dealing with, so DJI’s Battery Station is made of a non-flammable plastic that meets USA UL 94 V-O standards. The station also offers Discharge mode, for pilots who want to bring batteries levels down to 25% for transportation and 50% for storage.

How much does the DJI battery station cost?

All that power and flexibility certainly doesn’t come cheap. The Battery Station will retail at $1,199 and can be ordered through the DJI Online Store here.
